Growing up in Trivandrum in a middle-class family, I always found myself drawn to the world of colours, textures, and fabrics. But becoming a fashion designer wasn’t a straight path—it was a journey filled with doubts, dreams, and a deep passion for creativity.
🌱 Where It All Began
As a child, I loved observing the way clothes were styled during festivals, weddings, and family functions. While others saw just outfits, I saw stories, culture, and expressions stitched into every piece. I started sketching, making garments to dolls, and giving makeovers to old clothes.
In school, I wasn’t the top scorer like my brother. People around me compared us constantly. At times it was disheartening—but I quietly held on to my dream. I knew I wanted to do something different—something that spoke my language.
🎓 Choosing Fashion, Against the Odds
When it came time to decide my career path, I chose fashion. It wasn’t the most conventional decision, but my father stood by me like a rock. His support gave me the strength to follow my passion, even when the road ahead seemed uncertain.
I enrolled in fashion design, and from the first day, I felt like I had finally found where I truly belonged. Sketching, stitching, fabric selection—it didn’t feel like work. It felt like me.
🪡 Building My Own Brand
After graduation, I worked with renowned boutiques in Trivandrum and Ernakulam .After a career break to balance motherhood and passion. I wanted to create something of my own. That’s how my brand “TALES OF CLOTHS” was born—a label rooted in culture, nature, and individuality.
Launching an online business wasn’t easy. I had to learn not just design, but marketing, customer service, photography, and even how to package orders with love and care. Slowly and steadily, I started gaining customers who appreciated the uniqueness of my pieces.
🌸 My Design Philosophy
Comfortable is the key to happy clothing. I always give priority to comfort and performance. I love to get inspired from nature. From floral prints to earthy tones, my collections reflect the beauty I see around me. I believe fashion is more than just clothing—it’s how we express ourselves without words.
💬 Final Thoughts
Becoming a fashion designer in Kochi, Kerala was not an instant success story—it was a journey of learning, trying, failing, and growing. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: Believe in yourself, trust the process always find your own path and dreams.
Thank you for being part of my journey. Whether you’re a customer, supporter, or someone dreaming of their own path—I hope my story inspires you to chase what sets your soul on fire.
Merin does a great job of capturing the essence of Tales of Cloths—it highlights the brand’s artistry, regional roots, and commitment to inclusivity while also suggesting clear, actionable ways to strengthen its identity. I especially like how it connects “beautifully crafted” to both minimalism and intricate handwork, showing that elegance can be both simple and richly detailed. The emphasis on custom sizing and storytelling could be a real differentiator in a crowded designer market.
